Brother Armon asked about how we can live like the last post described, meaning in this overpowering, all-consuming love which takes in the people in the world, the brethren, and even those who hate us.  My answer this morning to this incredibly important question, one which troubles many of us.

Yes, Armon, what I hear the Lord saying is that "what is impossible with men is possible with God."  I know the greatest secret I've learned over the past year or so is this--it is all Christ in us.  Everything God requires is impossible with us.  So we must let go of the weak, ineffectual "natural man" Paul speaks so much of, and be filled, empowered, and led by the Spirit within us.

If we have never received the Spirit of God, then we have NO POWER.  I lived for over fifty years trying and striving to be a success as a Christian.  I was active in pentecostal churches, and other evangelical churches.  Yet this secret, which is in plain view if our eyes are opened to Scripture, wasn't plain to me at all.

In Acts, there are instances of men believing in Christ, yet not having received the Holy Spirit.

I believe that's exactly where many are today in our churches.  They have been brought into Christ, and left there to "live the Christian life" on their own.  Even those churches that claim to be "Spirit-filled" are living this way.  That's why their people can whoop and holler and shake and shimmy, supposedly in the power of the Spirit, and then go out the next day and continue to be slaves to their anger, their lust, their greed.  I grew up with that, and know it's the truth.

It's no different for the man who preaches a great sermon about Christ from the pulpit, full of truth, then that afternoon gets on his cell phone and makes a date with his mistress.

These "Christians" believe all the right things, but have not laid down their own lives yet, and have not begun the DAILY PROCESS of the Spirit putting to death the deeds of the flesh.  SEE ROMANS 8:1-11.

Many among us want the outward show.  Many want some religion.  Many want to be comforted by knowing they’ve got heaven waiting.  Many want to belong to the Christian Country Club, with all its activities, and are even willing to pay that “10% membership fee”.

But few, as Jesus said, are willing to follow Him to death of self, and the Spirit-empowered, selfless life He calls us to.

If each of us, on our knees, asks the Lord Jesus to reveal Himself to us by His Spirit, to fill us with His Spirit, and to live His life in us, taking our own life in the process, we are at the beginning in this matter.  Then, it’s daily.  Then, it’s only Him and His power, because it’s truly impossible in ourselves to live the kind of love and peace and passion and purity He calls us to.  Impossible with us, possible and doable with God.

Your brother,
A. Brother

  1. Romans 8:9

"But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His."

This word is very clear and I didn't see it for about eight years until I got married and my wife told me about the baptism in the Holy Spirit or being born again, which was never taught in the congregation I attended.

Millions of people call themselves Christian becuse they prayed a prayer or accepted Jesus into their hearts, yet we cannot find this type of conversion anywhere in scripture. The truth is most professing Christians are NOT born again of water AND Spirit! I was one of them!

One of the fruits of the Spirit is love, and how can the love of God be birthed in your heart if you don't have the Spirit of God in you? It's not possible! One can outwardly display this fruit, but at some point what's truly in the heart will be exposed, and we may be able to fool people, but we can never fool God. This is why Jesus said these words to the Pharisees, "These people draw near to Me with their mouth, And honor Me with their lips,But their heart is far from Me."

We MUST be born again! Then the Spirit of God starts His mighty work of sanctification of the flesh, purification of the heart, washing and cleansing of the soul, and purging of the conscious.

    Love In Christ,

  2. If we have never received the Spirit of God, then we have NO POWER.

There is a little power to be found in the world, in the flesh, or by the Adversary. Not nearly enough to accomplish what will endure.
