SO MUCH GARBAGE. SO LITTLE TIME.

This morning I'm writing with a sense the futility of modern Christian culture.  After spending an hour reading blogs by various Christians on various topics, I'm overcome once again by the ridiculous.

There is so much being written, yet so little being said.  So much self-focused rambling.  So much culturally-biased garbage. So much casual opinion thrown out into cyber-space.

At times, when researching what people are saying, I feel a disconnect so deep that it's like I'm on another planet.  The fluff is flying, the observers are observing, the arm-chair quarterbacks are barking signals, and our Christian sub-culture is running around ankle-deep in thin spiritual waters.

The root problem appears to be an unwillingness to stop talking, and start listening to the Word of God, and the Spirit of God.  Those whose constant ramblings are designed to gain readership are the worst offenders, and these all share the common trait of speaking their own ideas, their own thoughts, and their own opinions.  Yet we are enjoined by the Word to lose our own lives, and our own thoughts, and our own agendas, and to become New People of the Spirit, now having the mind of Christ, the life of Christ in us, the agenda of the Kingdom on our daily list.

You say, but what does that mean?  There are so many voices crying out about this or that, and telling us which way to go!  There is such confusion, and such noise!

My point exactly.  Those who seek to follow Jesus must set aside the noise, and the confusion, and become simple servants of Christ as we are instructed in the Word of God.  We must leave Babel, which is among us again.  These attempts by the thousands to build mighty towers to God by our own hands, and our own hard work are just the same old sin of self-centered living common to every generation since Adam.

Brothers, who long to live the simple Christ-life in all its fullness, we must set ourselves apart.  We must stop the mad rush.  We must consciously choose to get away with our Savior and be alone.

We must spend our time with Him, and in His Word--not having "devotions" ten minutes a day with a thought and prayer guided by some book written by a man or woman--but seeking Christ with all our hearts, for significant amounts of time each day, and at all hours while we're doing other things.  We must not turn to someone else, another person, and seek their wisdom.

We must know and understand that every believer has access to the throne of grace and truth, and that when we come to the Father He will give us His Holy Spirit to illumine the Word.
(1 John 2:27)

True teaching we need is teaching that is simple, and speaks to how we live in Christ, and how He lives in us.  It is the Word of God, and is devoid of personal opinion.  Like Paul, it will be all about Christ, and how Christ is our life, and we are dead, and how none of the religious thoughts and great wisdom of men has any bearing on our New Life in the Spirit.

True teaching will give us Truth straight up, without the "ice cubes" of human thinking and wonderful spin put on by the eloquent and elegant.

In other words, if you are reading other men's words more than the Word of God, if you are talking with and listening to other men more than you're talking with and listening to the Father and the Son talking to you through the Spirit, then you are on the wrong path.  You will continue to have confusion, and you will continue to be diverted in a thousand directions.

"If any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to him.  But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.  That man should not think he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all he does."  James 1:5-8

My brothers, I say with sadness, we are in a time when Babel is being built all over again, and by the hands of men who claim Christ!  Millions of words, and less simple faith and holy strength than at any time in history.  Let's leave the "madding crowd" and depart to the mountain with Christ to pray and hear His voice.

Those who are busy on the narrow road with Christ have no time for fluff.  Theirs is serious discipleship, and they are experiencing the daily dying, the loving disciplines, the hardships, along with the simple joys and pleasures of Christ's life in them.  He is working His work, and it takes every ounce of His strength, and every ounce of their attention!

God is calling out a people for Himself, who are not attached to worthless things, but who will be able to persevere through fire and flood, through famine and adversity.  They will be tested and proven, and a people for His glory, and not their own.

Peace and love in Christ to all,
A. Brother
